(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 10, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- According to a Tel Aviv University report in the journal Obesity, the Israel-based research team found that when overweight and obese women were given a weight loss diet with the same amount of daily caloric intake, those who ate a bigger breakfast than dinner tended to lose more weight than those who did the opposite.
The research team enlisted 93 obese women and randomly put them into two groups. For 12 weeks, the women were instructed to consumer a 1,400-calorie-a-day diet with moderate carbohydrates and fats. The first group was told to eat 700 calories at breakfast, 500 at lunch and 200 at supper. The other group was given opposite instructions; they were to eat 200 calories at breakfast and 700 calories at dinner.
At the end of the experiment, the bigger breakfast group had lost an average of 18 pounds and three inches off of their waistline. The dinner group averaged a 7.3-pound weight lost and only 1.4 inches of lost waistline.
The researchers said that the results indicate that proper meal timing should be considered when attempting to manage obesity. Regular exercise regimen and proper nutrition need to be taken into account as well, but the authors also suggested to cut back on late-night snacking or mindless eating in front of the TV.
