(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 29, 2013 ) Phoenix, AZ -- A long-term study of 35,292 men over a 28 year period by researchers at the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense and Bordeaux Segalen University in France found that men who drank alcohol and got at least 50 percent of their consumption from wine showed lower risks of death from heart disease as well as ling, lip, larynx and pharynx, oral cavity, bladder and rectal cancers.

At the beginning of the study, men ranged in age from 40 to 65 years old. By the end, 4,035 deaths from cancer were recorded, but numbers for heart-disease related deaths were not available. When data was collected, moderate wine consumption was associated with 40 percent reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease and a 20 percent reduced risk of death from cancer.

The study was printed in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Authors also suggested that drinking up to half a glass of wine a day could boost life expectancy in males by five years.
