(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 25, 2013 ) Queensland, Australia -- The off-season for Butler does not seem to be getting any better, as on Friday, the school announced that forward Roosevelt Jones would miss all of the season due to a wrist injury he suffered in a four-game Australian tour.
The junior was the Bulldogs' top returning scorer and rebounder, and became well known for making the buzzer-beating shot that had Butler defeating Gonzaga in an upset last January.
"Roosevelt suffered an injury that resulted in ligament damage to his left wrist, and he'll undergo season-ending surgery," Butler trainer Ryan Galloy said in a statement released by the school. "His prognosis is good and he's expected to make a full recovery for next season."
The latest bad news is only adding to the string of tough news for the Bulldogs. Coach Brad Stevens went to the Boston Celtics in July, while top assistant Graves ent to the South Alabama university in the spring. Four of the teams' seniors graduated, while the play-by-play announcer left to take a new job at Georgia Tech.
And in the most spirit-crushing of all the news, the mascot, Blue II, who now is said to suffer from Cushings Disease and heart disease, and likely has only months to live.
Meanwhile, Butler is leaving the Atlantic 10 and joining the Big East conference, which is its third conference in three years, which gives the team no grounding.
"First and foremost, our thoughts are with Roosevelt," Miller said. "He has worked very hard to position himself to have a terrific junior hear. ... Despite not playing, Roosevelt will continue to have an impact in leading this team as we move forward."
