Obstructive Sleep Apnea Related to Erectile Dysfunction

(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 18, 2013 ) Rome, Italy -- Erectile Dysfunction is common in patients with OSA, because apnea induced hormonal alterations, deviations in neural regulations many other bodily changes that cause and contribute to the development of erectile dysfunction.

Several studies have found that the prevalence of erectile dysfunction, or ED, is high among patients with OSA. In fact, a study by Seftel and colleagues found that 40 percent of OSA patients also have ED, but didn’t report having the problem until their OSA symptoms started worsening.

In another study, scientists conducted an analysis of almost 100 men who were nondiabetic and under the age of 60 years old with newly diagnosed OSA, to look at whether or not the prevalence of ED caused them to experience decreased libido. In that study, ED was present in 45.6 percent of cases, and in 27.2 percent of them, the men reported completely diminished libido.
