(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 12, 2013 ) Denver, Colorado -- Chopsticks are originally created in China during the Shang Dynasty. They are currently known as utensils for eating, but they were first used mainly for cooking and serving.
It was during the Han Dynasty when people started to use the utensils for eating, but that was still not widely accepted. During Ming Dynasty, the use for both eating and serving became normal to people.
The use of disposable chopsticks recently became very popular, and in China, they manufacture over 40 million of them each year. That means more than 20 million trees are cut each year, which has created some environmental concerns.
WittyCuisiner, a Denver based company that sells kitchen tools such as measuring spoon sets exclusively at Amazon, recently shared the fact on chopsticks on its Twitter account.
A company's spokesperson, Evelyn Stewart, says, "We think this is one of the serious environmental issuers that people need to be aware of and liked to share this with our Twitter followers. We use social media to connect to our customers by sharing interesting fact, or current issues which are not widely known."
Stewart continues and discusses the issues, "As a solution to this problem, the increase in tax on disposable wooden utensils were enforced in China and the use of reusable ones have been encouraged."
The tweet the company posted begins with "Really a lot!", which means lots of chopsticks. It is followed by a link to the image on the WittyCuisiner Pinterest post, which shows a pair of wooden utensils and a bowl of rice. The top of the image displays the texts, "China uses 45 billion chopsticks per year". The font used is impact and its size is 40.
The lower part of images displays the company's logo and the URL of the Facebook page, and when the image is clicked, it is directed to the company's Facebook page where the identical image is posted.
Stewart explains, "We use multi social networks to spread our images and messages. People are typically on different social media and we use all types of networks to reach out as many people as we can."
