A cynic would say that when something appears to be too good to be true then it is probably not true. As usual the truth is somewhere in between. Here is what may be factually substantiated.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance most of which is in the skin. However it is also in the synovial fluid of joints and acts as a lubricant. As we get older the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin lessens and as a result it retains less moisture. This results in drying out, lack of flexibility and wrinkles.
The FDA has approved the use of hyaluronic acid as an injection for use by cosmetic surgeons. This has been a popular alternative to Botox.
The question is whether hyaluronic acid can be absorbed through the skin. There are somewhat conflicting results about this. However, reputable investigators writing in dermatology journals have concluded that it is actively transported through the skin. So in theory applying the hyaluronic acid serum as a moistirizer to the surface of the skin should result in increased retention of water and hydration of the skin.
So there is some evidence that hyaluronic acid, which is a natural moisturizer, can in fact help to reduce the effects of aging on the skin. But it doubtful whether this effect will happen in one day.
