(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 05, 2014 ) Norwich, VT -- Temporary tattoos are fun and easy party favors for little kids -- moms everywhere soak the easily removable pirates, rainbows and unicorns all over their kids' faces, arms, and chubby little legs at birthday parties.
Plenty of adults enjoy their own versions -- usually pretend wounds and dripping blood, or roses and other images worn suggestively over the bikini line.
But now a Vermont woman suggests a new option for adults that is a bit more wholesome: using positive and nature themed temporary tattoos as decoration off-skin.
"How much did you spend for your fancy cell phone case?" asks Lisa Johnson, self-proclaimed Yumbassador at Live Yummy. "Well, for about fifty cents you can professionally decorate any cell phone case."
The FDA-approved temporary tattoos Live Yummy sells ("Temporary Tattoos for Adventurous Women", available on Amazon.com) apply with just water. So whether it's human skin, a glass window, a wooden kitchen cabinet, a paper party cup, or a plasticized iPhone case, in a matter of seconds it can be transformed.
"You know when you have an informal party, and everyone's drinking out of a paper cup? And everyone gets them confused?" asks Johnson. "Yeah, you can get out a Sharpie, but it's way cooler to give each guest their own tatt to put on their own cup, and they know which is theirs."
Crafters all over the country are using temporary tattoos on jewelry boxes, fingernails, water bottles, even on plain paper to transform it into stationery.
"You just have to be sure that the surface can get a bit wet, because that's how you apply the tattoos... or just use the slightly damp paper towel just on the back of the tattoo itself," explains Johnson. "It will stick to most surfaces if they're smooth and not bumpy or grainy."
"Once you start thinking about non-skin applications, you can't stop," warns Johnson. "The backs of wooden chairs, the fridge, the sliding glass doors, a note to a friend... it's all fair game."
