(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 14, 2014 ) Frisco, TX -- Frisco, TX based company Beauty by Earth announces that for the month of September they will be offering a 10% Off Sale on all of the products they sell on the Amazon Marketplace via a promo code (listed at the bottom of this article)
Why September? While September is the month that kids are going back to school in the United States after a Summer break, it is also the month of Clean Up the World Weekend (3rd weekend of September) and World Water Monitoring Day (September 18th).
Beauty by Earth started their brand around products that were not only non-toxic and free of any harmful ingredients for the sake of the consumer, but also products that are Earth friendly.
While it is important to take be sure products that are applied to the skin and are consumed are toxin-free, it is equally important to take care of the environment, as this is where food and water come from.
In July 2014, Beauty by Earth announced the launch of an all-natural SPF 25 Sunscreen that was non-toxic, eco-friendly and reef-safe. This sunscreen is an alternative product to sunscreens containing chemicals that have been proven to be harming our reefs.
National Geographic published an article in January 2008 stating that the sunscreen that people are slathering on before a swim on the beach may be protecting their skin, but a new study found that the chemicals are also killing coral reefs the world over.
They found that four commonly found sunscreen ingredients can awaken dormant viruses in the symbiotic algae called zooxanthellae that live inside reef-building coral species.
The chemicals found in these sunscreens caused the viruses to replicate until their algae hosts explode, spilling viruses into the surrounding seawater, where they were infecting neighboring coral communities.
Zooxanthellae provide coral with food energy through photosynthesis and contributes to the corals vibrant color. Without these, the coral "bleaches" giving it the appearance of turning white, and it dies.
This study was done by Roberto Danovaro of the Polytechnic University of Marche in Italy and his team.
The researchers estimated that 4,000 to 6,000 metric tons of sunscreen wash off of swimmers annually in oceans worldwide, and that up to 10 percent of coral reefs are threatened by this bleaching.
Danovaro and his team studied the effects of sunscreen exposure on coral samples from coral reefs in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans and found that even low levels of sunscreen could activate the algae viruses and completely bleach coral in just four days.
Several brands of popular sunscreens were tested and all had four ingredients in common: parabens, cinnamate (also commonly listed as Octyl methoxycinnamate and cinoxate), benzophenone, and a camphor derivative."
Danovaro says banning sunscreen won't be necessary, and points out two simple things swimmers can do to reduce their impact on coral: Use sunscreens with physical filters (such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) , which reflect instead of absorb ultraviolet radiation; and use eco-friendly chemical sunscreens.
Clean Up the World is a community-based, environmental campaign that inspires communities around the globe to clean up, fix up and conserve their environment.
The campaign's flagship event is Clean Up the World Weekend, celebrated world over on the 3rd weekend in September each year, however Clean Up the World encourages and supports groups to undertake activities throughout the year.
World Water Monitoring Day is an international education and outreach program that builds awareness of the importance of protecting water resources around the world by engaging people to do basic monitoring of their local water bodies and supplies. During this time, people throughout the world will have an opportunity to monitor the quality of their local watersheds and enter the results of their efforts into an international database.
Beauty by Earth is offering promo code: 10EARTHS for 10% off of their entire catalog for the month of September for anyone participating in Clean Up The World Weekend or World Water Monitoring Day and encourages everyone to do so.
