Polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as omega-3, are an essential addition to any healthy diet. They improve the chemical interaction of the nervous system with the brain along with regulating the blood flow and boosting the immune system.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 24, 2014 ) Santa Monica, CA -- Research that looked into the effects of polyunsaturated fatty-acids, such as omega-3, in brain function amongst those suffering from dementia and other similar conditions has revealed generally positive results. The study has found two particular components in omega-3 that could not only help in slowing down the progress of dementia and memory loss, but could also help in improving healthy brain functions.

Polyunsaturated fatty-acids such as omega-3 improve the chemical interaction of the nervous system with the brain by regulating the blood flow and boosting the immune system. Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil also helps to maintain the nerve cells in the hippocampus preventing the brain from deteriorating with age, which can lead to the development of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. This is supported by a different study published in Neurology, where there is at least a 0.7% increase in overall brain size in those who take omega-3 supplements on a regular basis.

"It's good to know that there are components in omega-3 that could help us boost brain function." Says John W. Collins, president of PacificCoast NutriLabs, makers of high-quality supplements such as the PLATINUM Series Fish Oil Omega-3. "Going through age and losing memory is like losing a huge part of your life. It's like the good things you've done in your life never happened at all. I'm glad that there is something out there that could help us prevent that from happening."

Marine-derived omega-3 fatty acids are normally found in krill, squid and fish, particularly oily fish. Oily fish such as mackerel, salmon, char and sardines contain the best source of EPA, DPA and DHA. DHA found in Omega-3 is an essential ingredient to visual and neurological infant development and when taken as a supplement, it can have a positive effect on the elderly, reducing many symptoms of aging, including memory loss. Many studies also suggest that an increase in omega-3 EPA and DHA supplements for those suffering from respiratory inflammation, such as asthma or for those prone to allergic reactions, could help them manage their conditions.

The study was done as a part of the US Women's Health Initiative Memory Study, which is looking for ways to minimize the risk of memory loss and dementia in the elderly. The study itself looked into the neural volume of 1,111 elderly women taking EPA and DHA over a period of eight years, and has revealed that there was a 2.7% size difference in the hippocampus. The researchers stressed that it is unclear whether brain size plays a part in long-term development of dementia or not. With defined trials on the use of omega-3 on volunteers, however, further information can be gained on whether fish oils or food supplements derived from fish oils, such as fish oil pills, can help with protecting against cognitive decline.

To celebrate the results of the study, PacificCoast NutriLabs is offering their PLATINUM Series Fish Oil Omega 3 at 50% off for a limited time only.
