(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 17, 2014 ) WELLINGTON, Colo—Adventure Media, a firm that offers Public Relations services for adventure travel companies around the world is pleased to announce that it is now representing VISIONS Service Adventures. For 25 years, VISIONS has set the standard for international community service programs for high school and middle school students.

VISIONS programs emphasize meaningful, robust service work and cross-cultural living, with sites in the U.S. and around the globe. Programs help teen volunteers understand a complicated world and learn meaningful ways to contribute productively.

VISIONS founders had worked with teenagers for more than decade in a summer camp on a Pennsylvania farm that was created in the 1970s. They watched youth excel at construction, farm labor and maintaining the physical environment. Summer camp students loved the camaraderie of shared physical labor (which they were good at), and the shared sense of purpose.

Based on this, VISIONS Service Adventures was created in 1988 to take experiential learning to another level — tapping into teenagers’ abilities, with the goal of helping others and thereby expanding the rewards cycle. The organization collaborates with local nonprofits and makes long-term commitments in host communities. VISIONS has worked in most of its communities for more than 15 years, and in some locations for more than 20 years. The relationships run deep, and teen participants are welcomed like family into VISIONS communities around the world.

Projects are equally ambitious and gratifying. Students get to choose between three or four worksites that run concurrently during a program. Teen volunteers work until mid-afternoon on weekdays, with time at the end of the day for cultural and recreation events. Weekends are set aside for travel and excursions to some of the best sites in the region. Machu Picchu in Peru, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Glacier National Park in Montana, the Galapagos in Ecuador, just to name a few.

On a VISIONS service adventure, young people live in the heart of a community and work side-by-side with their hosts, getting to know the people whose lives they impact. Students work hard, play hard and make a difference. They also gain an appreciation for this multicultural world and return home a more informed global citizen.
