Although most consumers are not aware of this, recent regulations put out by the FDA have dictated how sunscreens have to be classified, and in effect separating them from the classification of being cosmetics to the classification of falling under the umbrella of OTC drugs. With that in mind, essential labeling on any product that contains a scientifically proven SPF factor must now be labelled accordingly under a heading of drug facts on the label, along with the percentages of active ingredients.
Cosmetic products, such as anti aging serums, lotions creams and moisturizing products fall under a totally different category if they do not contain known active drugs that are classified as broad spectrum protectants in the SPF category.
To use cosmetics along with broad spectrum protectants properly, it is best to apply the cosmetic product such as an anti aging serum or a vitamin c serum to the skin before the application of the broad spectrum sunscreen. Sunscreens should be applied after the application of those products and before the application of make up products. Sunscreens should be the last layer applied to the skin before any makeup applications.
There are certain manufacturers now marketing lotions and moisturizers containing sunscreen in the formula. Although it is essential to utilize a broad spectrum sunscreen to protect one's skin from harmful UV rays, Xfacio Labs has taken on the position at present that it is better to separate the issues than to combine too many different components of skin care products into a one product that does it all.
