Give Your Face The Moisturizer It Needs
Boyce Henry, director of product and brand development for Savy Industries, spoke of the application process regarding skin care, "As a general rule, targeted moisturizers such as vitamin C eye eye serums and retinol gels should be applied first and allowed to penetrate the skin completely. Next, an overall facial moisturizer can be applied and again, allow the moisturizer to fully absorb. Finally, makeup can be applied over the moisturizers. The facial creams must be fully absorbed into the skin before using makeup to avoid clumping. A layer of sunscreen could be applied over the moisturizers, but before makeup. Many face creams have a sunscreen built into the formula."
Henry added, "We have had numerous inquiries about the correct procedure for applying moisturizers and makeup. One of the keys to great skin is protecting the skin from UV rays. If sunscreen is used separately, it should be the last layer before makeup is applied. As many sunscreens are fairly oily, the best solution is to use a moisturizer or makeup that has a built in sunscreen, otherwise you must be sure to allow the sunscreen to be totally absorbed into the skin before applying makeup."
With all the choices in skin care and cosmetics, one could easily become confused on what to use and what to avoid. Henry noted, "Knowing your skin type will narrow down the field considerably. From there, find something you like that works well and be consistent with its use. However, once a skin care product or cosmetic has been chosen, the correct implementation of these products is essential to their effectiveness."
