(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 10, 2014 ) Naperville, IL -- The question came via private message to Day By Day Beauty's founder earlier this week, and while the inquirer was addressed personally, Day By Day Beauty felt it important to address the matter publicly as well.
Day By Day Beauty's Vitamin C Serum is comprised of natural and organic substances. By no means does it need to be stored in the refrigerator, but those ingredients are susceptible to photochemical reactions that would break down the materials. Just as light rays excite the melanin in the skin into heightening skin's natural sun protection (aka becoming tan) those same light rays produce chemical reactions, at least in small ways, in everything it touches. Photochemical reactions also spoil food and render medications ineffective. This simple fact explains why beer bottles aren't clear and prescription bottles are orange.
Pre-19th century, the Apothecary was the publics' drug store. It offered tonics, medications, creams and other herbal remedies known for the time. William Shakespeare's Romeo Montague purchased his untimely death from such a place. Before plastics were commonplace, ingredients were stored in ceramic or glass containers. Likely by trial and error before science proved it, the early apothecaries learned the importance of protecting their ingredients from the light, but they needed to be able to see inside their containers to judge how much product was left. Amber became the color of choice for the glass bottles, not because other colors didn't work, dark blues and greens were also popular (in fact if grandma's attic has any of those tucked away, a visit to the nearest antique store might be prudent), but amber was the cheapest color to mass-produce in glass. Modern plastic prescription bottles are orange because that color had become strongly associated with medication.
Day by Day Beauty's Vitamin C Serum is not medication although its proven benefits could be touted as therapeutic
-Brightened skin tone
-Reduction of age spots and sun damage
-Minimized appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
-Tightened skin as a result of restored elasticity
-Protection from free radicals and environmental aggressors
The Vitamin C Serum offered by Day By Day Beauty is a spa quality, natural, organic skin nourishment. It does need to be protected from photochemical reactions, so cobalt blue was chosen as its container. Beautiful looking outside, and functional in how it protects the inside. Sounds similar to the human skin, doesn't it?
