(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 05, 2013 ) San Clemente, CA -- When a blushing bride and her new groom depart for a honeymoon once once considered among the most important occasions in the wedding festivities. The occasion is now falling by the wayside according to new reports.
Local wedding planners in the industry who felt it was not exactly a surprise that the interest had fallen out of fashion. Instead, they felt the supply of new goods to the household were a top priority for individuals who had just tied the knot.
Stephanie Teague explained her own first-hand experience. "My husband and l had all the basics when we got married seven years ago, so we registered for things that were a little nicer than what we had," said Teague, who helps plan weddings in the Sacramento, Calif., area. "That's what I'm really hearing. People are looking for towels, sheets and everyday dishes that are a little nicer."
What it comes down to is practicality, according to Stephanie. That concept is not something all stores have, but she noted locations like Target and Macy's make it a point to market to such concepts.
Donna Vessey, who owns an event-planning company in Colorado, agreed with Stephanie regarding practicality of items like linens, cookbooks, and other household items take precedent. Unusual gifts is not exactly foreign to her, however. "The craziest gift I've ever seen was an actual llama," Vessey said. "The giver brought the llama to the reception, and tied it up outside the reception hall."
Lizzie Post noted some simple advice that can help anyone if they're feeling the bind of trying to attain the right gift.
"The gift doesn't have to put a dent in your bank account," she said. "You don't have to buy that $150 crystal bowl. You can do something that's a really special homemade or personalized gift for the bride and groom; things like a special photo album or a collection of family recipes. These are the kinds of things that become really cherished, but they also don't have to put quite such a strain on your wallet."
