(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 01, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- According to new research, Australians are "stingy socialisers", as a study of over 1, 000 Aussies found that three of four have gone on what they would describe as boring dates.
Research also noted that Aussies favor safe options to dates rather than those that are more spontaneous but have any potential for risk (as in being more secluded in the destination).
Seasonality impacts the habits of individuals, according to the study, as 25% of respondents said the frequency of dates does not rise until higher temperatures return. The main reason given by many is that it is harder to create interesting date in colder months, as apparently museums are a snore for many.
Kathy Keough and George Becker admitted that their first date was both cheap and lighthearted, as they went out for fish and chips while watching a sunset at Henley Beach. They found the date pleasurable and fitting, despite it being the middle of winter. The pair had met via eHarmony and still schedule dates regularly.
"We still make sure we go on date nights - we try to keep it a little more low key - we just signed a contract for a house so it's more dinner in front of the fireplace these days," Ms Keough said.
Relationship expert Elly Taylor noted some keys to a successful first date is avoiding the bore. "Two in five people define a 'boring' date as one that lacks conversation. You don't need to spend big to plan an activity based on your common interests, like a bike ride or bushwalk if you enjoy the outdoors or a visit to the farmers' market for foodies," she said.In South Australia, a favorite date for winter comes in the old tradition of dinner and a movie. The next favorite is a home-cooked meal that includes a movie. Over a quarter of all South Australians state they can tell if a first date will lead to something more serious. A little under a quarter of all respondents to the study noted it was difficult to plan dates during the colder months.
